While we don't recieve as many stories each year as we do photos (last year we recieved over 300 photos!), the ones that we do recieve never fail to move us. There are so many fantastic stories from Walk to Tuk and we are so glad we get to share them. So, who will be the winners of the stories prize (and the $50 Mountain Equipment Co-op gift card) this year?
The first round of prizes given out for stories and photos were awarded on February 3. The second round of prizes were awarded on March 2.
Our second winner is a classic Walk to Tuk story about people getting together in the name of Walk to Tuk. Thank you to everyone who submitted!
STORY WINNER: KAYLA HOFF
I’m Kayla Hoff and this is my third year participating in the Walk to Tuk challenge. I work for Environment and Natural Resources South Slave division in Hay River as the Intern Corporate Service Clerk. I love working and being a part of this team, as they are my support when I need help and always seem to have the answers or guide me in the right direction.
When I saw this year’s Walk to Tuk 10th anniversary start up I thought it was a great opportunity for building teamwork and encouraging those healthy choices that contribute to a positive work environment. So in December, I threw a quick email out to see if there was any interest, my goal was just to get 8-10 participants. I was thrilled to discover that others wanted for join and I now have a team of 20! My team, ENR’s South Slave division consists on Fort Smith, Fort Providence, Fort Resolution, and Hay River. While we’re spread out, this activity brings us all together as a team and it makes me so happy!
It’s been fun getting out there, encouraging my fellow coworkers, and getting that positive feedback in return. We’re all a team and doing this together. The support and comradery has been great. We’re getting free t-shirts, we’re making healthy choices, and we’re spreading happiness around like confetti!
I’m so stoked that I get to be a part of this team and ecstatic to be its Captain.
